Diana’s Patchwork Sashiko Method is a unique mash-up of different slow stitching and patchwork techniques. In this class, students will use their own scraps to learn the method of laying out the patchwork and applying the hand-stitching for practice. Then, students will use what they have learned and move on to embellishing their own garment with favorite scraps of all shapes and sizes. Add some hand-stitching on top and garments will be fully transformed! The top should be made of woven fabric (not knit) and will be easier to implement if the front is open or has buttons to open the front. Please note: the hand-stitching will be visible on the inside of the garment as well as the outside. Patchwork Sashiko Kits will be available to purchase if desired.

Learn how to transform your scraps into a beautiful new textile! Diana’s Patchwork Sashiko Method is a unique mash-up of different slow stitching and patchwork techniques. Students will start with a stack of scraps and create a pliable piece of unique patchwork fabric with which to do whatever you want! Once students learn this method, they can then use their own fabric scraps in any size and shape they like. It’s great for visible mending, using in a favorite bag pattern, or as a unique feature in a quilt.
Limit Yourself and Grow Creatively
Date: Sunday, February 23, 2024
Time: 11:30am - 12:30pm
Lecture Code: LE25

Everything is available to us today. If we need something, we can order today and receive it tomorrow! But the expanse of choices and ease of availability may be stifling your creativity. In a world of choices, limiting yourself to what you have on hand can present a challenge that gets your creative juices flowing. What new ideas may surface when your resources are limited? In this lecture Diana will start by speaking broadly about the concept, then narrow the focus to sewing. Diana will share stories from her own sewing life and offer suggestions on how to implement this idea in your own creative life. Please note: this is not a Patchwork Sashiko Method instructional lecture.
